Ernst Julius Hähnel

Architekturstudium an der Dresdner Bauschule unter Thörmer, ab 1825 an der Münchner Akademie unter Fr. v. Gärtner. 1830 Bekanntschaft mit E. Rietschel und L. Schwanthaler, unter deren Einfluss er sich der Bildhauerei zuwendete. 1831 an der Akademie in Florenz, 1832 in Rom. Bekanntschaft u.a. mit Thorwaldsen, Reinhard, Koch und Semper. 1834 Rückkehr nach Dresden, 1835 nach München und ab 1838 endgültig in Dresden ansässig sowie künstlerisch als Bildhauer tätig. 1848 Professor an der Dresdner Kunstakademie. Neben seinem umfangreichen Schaffen innerhalb von Dresden schuf Hähnel zudem zahlreiche Werke in ganz Deutschland und Europa, u.a. in Wien, Braunschweig und Leipzig.

Patina and colouring with visible craquelure and many smallest marks. Corners bruised, smaller losses on Bacchus' chaplet, hand and pole as well as on Ganymeds hat and on the bowl next to the eagle.
